Patients & Families Living with Your Guardian Emergency Alarm

Emergency Alarm

Emergency Alarm

What Does an Emergency Alarm Sound Like?

When an Emergency alarm occurs, the Implanted Device (IMD) in your chest vibrates and your External Device (EXD) beeps and also flashes the Emergency light. The Emergency alarm has a distinctive 3-2, 3-2 pattern.

Move your mouse cursor over the animation to the right to see an Emergency alarm on the EXD.

Responding to an Emergency Alarm

The Emergency alarm is the most serious warning the Guardian system issues. It indicates the Guardian has detected a potentially dangerous heart condition. If you receive an Emergency alarm, you should:

Silencing the alarm
  • Call for an ambulance right away.
Tell the dispatcher of any symptoms that you may have. If you do not have symptoms, explain that you have a medical device that warns you when it detects heart problems.
Silencing the alarm
  • Look at the back of your EXD and follow any instructions written on the label.
Calling
  • Silence the Emergency alarm using your External Device (EXD).
To do this, place the External Device over your Implanted Device (IMD) and press the button on the EXD.
Remember, in 15 minutes you will get another alarm, called the Reminder alarm. You silence this alarm in the same manner as the initial alarm with your EXD.
Carry EXD
  • Take your EXD with you to the hospital.
Giving ID Card
  • Tell the medical staff that you have an implanted device that vibrates when you have a heart problem. Also, show them your Patient ID card and your patient booklet, if available.
Caution: Investigational Device. Limited by United States law to investigational use.
